2020 Les Vignerons de Fontès "Prieuré Saint-Hippolyte" Languedoc Rosé

SKU #1553928

Les Vignerons de Fontès is a cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project, which has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of soils including schist, basalt, limestone and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the south of France. The rosé, one of our bestsellers every year, is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache that is made in the saignée style where a light maceration occurs and the fruit is bled off the skins. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, preserving the freshness and clean character of the wine. It is bright and lively, with aromas of raspberries, redcurrants, and white flowers. The Mediterranean influence is easily felt in this region, and the best cuisine for this wine is just that—Mediterranean! Serve with roasted vegetables, chickpea salad, and fresh cheeses. A delight!

Straightaway the floral notes of the Hippolyte rose remined me of pink begonia's and champagne pink currants along with hints of grapefruit and ripe watermelon. What completes this is the finish of fresh yet subtle notes of candied strawberries. There is great impression on the palate, full flavors and lingering length. Surprisingly great aromatics persistence and balance. Such a great value for a dry Languedoc rose.

St-Hippolyte remains one of our favorite staple roses every year. The fresh strawberry and melon fruit give way to a light and refreshing palate. And as easy as this is on the palate, it's even easier on the pocket book. This has found its way into the house wine rotation of many a K&Ler. If you haven't already, you should add it into yours!
