2020 Château Saint Jacques d'Albas "La Chapelle en Rose" Minervois Rosé

SKU #1553200

Situated to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne and in the shadow of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) lies Minervois. The village of Laure-Minervois is home to Château Saint Jacques d'Albas, a 90-hectare hillside estate. Some 26 hectares of the estate are planted to vines, with the rest composed of forests and creeks acting as a natural barrier to their neighbors. At the winery, a small team, led by owner Graham Nutter, crafts superb reds, whites, and rosés, all of which are farmed organically. The "La Chapelle en Rose" is a blend of 76% Grenache, 16% Mourvèdre, and 8% Syrah. It is fresh, lively and oh so inviting.

This easy drinking and very user friendly rose has a very floral nose with rose petals and notes of honey and citrus. It has elegant and soft mouthfeel with lush, crunchy red fruits, honey and citrus.

St-Jacques d'Albas proprietor Graham Nutter recently shared the origin story of the Chapelle en Rose with me. There is an 11th century chapel that resides on the property at St-Jacques d'Albas that was restored about a decade ago. When he and his family had a picnic in the vineyards one day, he noticed the way the sun's light played off the chapel's walls. As the sun set, the limestone walls took on a rosy hue, inspiration struck and the Chapelle en Rose was born! Always one of my favorites roses of the season, this is a delightfully elegant yet rich rose with flavors of persimmon, pamplemousse and Red Delicious apples. It is an inviting and rounded style that commands outdoor drinking and sunset gazing.
