2018 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc 6-Pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1548849 98 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Leading off the single vineyard Hermitage whites, the 2018 Ermitage De L’Orée is all Marsanne, from the Les Murets lieu-dit, brought up mostly in used demi-muids. Orange blossom, crushed citrus, spice box, white flowers, beautiful minerality, and vivid charcoal notes emerge from the glass of this beautiful, concentrated, opulent Hermitage, which has a stacked mid-palate and a level of structure fitting for a red wine. It's a brilliant wine that's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for 20+. Inner quote mark (12/2019)

96-98 points Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Classy hints of pencil shavings accent the pear, nectarine and melon fruit in the full-bodied, voluptuous 2018 Ermitage de l'Orée. Despite the wine's ample richness and weight, it's surprisingly fresh and zesty, with hints of citrus zest and brine lingering on the finish. (JC) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

96 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This is creamy-edged, but with a racy spine, brightness and energy, showing floral lift amid a mix of white peach, white nectarine and mango flavors. The long finish is threaded with chamomile and verbena notes. A beauty. (LM) Inner quote mark (4/2021)

95 points Decanter

Outer quote mark This has weight but perhaps not quite the depth of some more recent vintages of de l'Orée, however it does have a little more juice with a good sense of freshness and length even if the acidity is low. A little more floral in style than most recent vintages with balanced alcohol. From 70-year-old vines from the lieu-dit Les Murets. All matured in demi muid with 15% new oak. Drinking Window 2022 - 2030. (MW) Inner quote mark (9/2019)

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark 100% Marsanne. Tank sample. Riper fruit than their Méal, fleshing out the palate and giving a more balanced, satisfying impression of flavour. Well-integrated dairy character and a decent dash of freshness that probably comes more from a saline/herbal flavour than acidity itself. Statuesque. 18/20 points. (RH) Inner quote mark (11/2019)
