1995 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (3L) (depressed cork, bin soiled label)

SKU #1547699 93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This is surprisingly delicate and fine now with currant and spice character and hints nuts. It is full body with refined texture and a beautiful finish. Inner quote mark (6/2016)

91 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 1995 Pichon-Baron is a wine that tasted extremely well several years ago, but I wonder how well it is continuing to evolve. The bouquet feels a little smudged, scents of iodine and cassis merging with blackberry and pencil lead; it is a little meandering and missing a sense of focus. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp acidity and good density, but it doesn’t possess the clarity and detail of more recent vintages. Solid, but lacks flair. Tasted at the Pichon-Baron vertical at the château. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2019)

90 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Ripe but fresh, with cedary and flinty blackberry and plum fruit still lingering on. (ID) Inner quote mark (10/2014)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark A stylish, elegant, more restrained style of Pichon Baron, with less obvious new oak than usual, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine offers a pure black currant-scented nose with subtle aromas of coffee and smoky toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine displays less weight and muscle than the 1996, but it offers suave, elegant, rich fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly lush style. (RP) Inner quote mark (2/1998)

90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Blackberry, with violet and currant undertones. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. A little tight still. Give it some time. This is layered and rich. Classy. A little better than I remember. (JS, Web Only-2007) Inner quote mark

Jancis Robinson

Outer quote mark Healthy crimson. There seems to be body and weight here on the nose but not that much flavour. Neat and well mannered with very resolved tannins. A very solid Pauillac if not the most soaring and inspired. 17/20 Inner quote mark (2/2011)

K&L Notes

94 points Neal Martin: "Tasted at the London Pichon-Baron off-line. Tasted single blind, this has a deep garnet core. The nose has wonderful lift with blackberry, cassis, espresso and fireside hearth. Great definition although there is still just a little oak to be subsumed. The palate has very good weight and concentration, firm tannins, pure blackberry, kirsch and perhaps just a faint touch of VA that just lends the finish a sense of sensuality and decadence. Superb. Drink 2010-2025." (09/2009)
