A definite contender for best value red blend in the store right now. The 2019 M5 from Margerum drinks WAY above its modest price point. This Rhone style blend is driven by Grenache with a good dollop of Syrah and Mourvèdre, and a pinch of Counoise and Cinsau(l)t to round it out. It's like a bright, young Châteauneuf-du-Pape with lashings of ripe, smoky red fruits, cherry, loganberry, bramble tones, clove, woodsy spices, cracked peppercorn, dried herbs, and dusty gravel mineral. Medium-plus bodied, a silky, polished texture, great purity and balance. It's a fantastic all-rounder that's crowd-pleasing and super versatile with food. At just over $20, this wine offers exceptional value for money as recognized by the huge score from Vinous. Looking for a new house red? Give this a whirl, I'm confident you'll be very impressed.
