Outer quote mark Strong liquorice side to the fruit. Very full and generous, very rich, deep fruit. Acidity is quite marked, very ripe tannins, not the finest, but certainly plentiful. Romain Roche took over the family property from his father Marcel in 2009. Romain is known for expressing the typicity of Cairanne and has become one of the key producers synonymous with the region. Roche has worked sustainably since he started the winery but has recently begun the organic conversion process. La Bousquette is a true gem of a vineyard over 120+ years of age. It is one of the oldest vineyards in Cairanne. This single parcel is planted to Grenache and Carignan on sandy-clay soils. All grapes are hand harvested, and each varietal is fermented and aged in concrete tanks to preserve the character of the vineyard and the fruit. A sublime experience that captures the greatest essence of Cairanne.

Cairanne is still the newest elevated Cru appellation in the Rhone but that doesn't mean there aren't already world class collectibles coming out its cellars. Case in point - La Bousquette from Domaine Roche. One of, if not the oldest vine fruit in Cairanne at a whopping 120+ years of age. Grenache and Carignan, so gnarly and grizzled, they were planted at the turn of the last century! The wine that comes from this site is deeply concentrated, reminiscent of old vine Shiraz from Australia. Since it is all brought up in concrete tank, there is an unadulterated purity. The wine speaks volumes with flavors of Chambord, currant jam, sandalwood and anise. It exudes flavor! A short time in the cellar would not be untoward but fear not, it is luscious and forward drinking with beautifully polished tannins. I'd say it's like drinking an equivalent Chateanuef at half the price, but this is Cairanne and there is no better wine to compare it to!

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
