Outer quote mark The 2018 Red Blend Bravado is a blend of 40% Syrah, 36% Carignan, 14% Grenache, 9% Petit Verdot and 1% Mourvèdre, all from Itata, and spent 18 months in neutral barrels. Purple in color. The nose delivers notes of blackberry and raspberry with hints of cherry, herbs and orange petit-fours. Relaxed and juicy in the mouth, the tannins are fine and grippy. A long-lasting wine that lives up to the sum of its parts, which is saying a lot. (JH) Inner quote mark (5/2021)

93 Points Tim Atkin MW: “Felipe García increased the percentage of Syrah to 40% in 2018, with the remaining 60% made up of Carignan, Grenache, Petit Verdot and Mourvèdre. Scented, intense and serious, this is wonderful focus and freshness for a red with 14.5% alcohol, granular tannins and plum and damson fruit.”

Itata is approaching the Southern boundary of viticulture in Chile. Located inland from Concepcion this was one of the first places that European vines were planted in the Americas. This is a blend of old vine Carignan, with Syrah, Grenache, Petit Verdot and Mourvedre. This Rhone inspired blend is textbook Itata. Bright dark red fruit, herbs, a touch of earth, spice and stones. Medium full bodied with intense bright fruits, those herbs and spice, it reminds me of Priorat with the fruit, spice, and earthy mineral combination.
