This is a compelling rendition made from 100% cabernet sauvignon sourced from one block within an estate vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels district. The gloriously expressed bouquet shows cassis, blueberry compote, cedar, cigar, violet and black olive characters. The palate is superbly concentrated and weighted, delivering exceptional depth and richness, while remaining perfectly balanced and structured by loads of fine, chalky tannins. The wine is complete and symphonic with staggering energy and drive. At its best: 2022 to 2038.

Deep, inky cabernet sauvignon, with an aroma of dried berry, oak, malt and liquorice. More fruit emphasis on the palate with classic cigar box, cassis and, again, spicy oak. Very concentrated and solidly-structured wine that's built to last and yet can be appreciated now. Powerful red - an icon in the making.

The impressive 2014 Ngakirikiri is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Pencil shavings frame notes of cassis liqueur in this medium to full-bodied wine that manages to be rich and creamy yet firmly structured and intense. It's downright embryonic at this stage, with layers of primary fruit, elegant French oak and a swirl of dusty tannins on the lingering finish. This luxury cuvée sets a new standard of excellence for Villa Maria.

Dark cherries and cassis, chocolate, graphite and roasting herbs abound on the nose. This has such striking intensity and depth to the palate with dark-chocolate and black-cherry flavors, as well as dark-plum paste and a spicy thread, too. The length is impressive here. Great balance and drive.
