2016 Lunadoro "Pagliareto" Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

SKU #1541890 94 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Blue-flower, ripe black-plum and baking-spice aromas are front and center along with a whiff of crushed herb. Smooth and full bodied, the savory palate shows juicy black cherry, ripe blackberry and licorice alongside lithe, fine-grained tannins. It's balanced, with bright acidity. 91 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Lunadoro's main vineyards are situated at an average altitude of 332 metres in the breezy zone of Valiano. Made exclusively with Sangiovese, Pagliareto spends the first 12 months in French oak tonneaux followed by a further year in larger casks. Modern and polished in style, it exhibits macerated plum, thyme and menthol with traces of chocolate. It's solidly built though balanced in its proportions and will need some time to unfold. 90 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Cassis and violet aromas and flavors mark this elegant Vino Nobile. Forest floor and tobacco notes add interest, while a light dusting of tannins defines the finish. Shows fine balance overall. (BS) Inner quote mark (10/2020)

K&L Notes

Grown on the northeast side of Montepulciano near Valiano and made from 100% Sangiovese grapes (locally called Prugnolo Gentile) aged in 20-30hl casks of French oak for 2 years.

The nose of this wine is savory, wisps of Tuscan brush and earth mixed with wild cherry and dried flowers. On the palate this wine shows depth, structure and a plumy fruit eases forward showing layers of spice and complexity. It rolls across your tongue with an ease, smooth and flowing yet underneath there's still a backbone of tannin and good acidic balance. Marvelous for a mixed Tuscan grill or your favorite pasta.
