Most of you are aware by now that I'm a HUGE believer in Oregon Chardonnay. Sure, everyone knows they make rocking Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley, but the Chardonnay still flies a little under the radar most of the time. The "Fond Marin" or "Seabed" Chardonnay from Authentique Cellars is a wine that deserves to be in your glass if you love great Chardonnay. Coming from top notch vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills - Keeler Estate, Bois Joli and Eola Springs Vineyards - that all share ancient marine sedimentary soils that give the wine its fitting name. This wine wonderfully combines beautifully ripe Chardonnay flavors and textures with searing acidity and saline minerality. Bursting initially with ripe golden orchard fruit, and poached pear, the palate quickly transitions into preserved lemon, citrus peel, toasted almonds and oyster shell mineral. The range of flavors experienced on the palate is remarkable, and the texture goes from viscous and creamy upfront, to dry, chalky, and mouthwatering on the finish with focused acidity and seeming endless persistence. So impressive and impactful. Absolutely stunning Chardonnay by any measure.
