2019 Maison Joseph Drouhin Vosne-Romanée

SKU #1538672 93 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Fragrant nose of black raspberries and summer flowers with a delicate hint of oak. Suave and sophisticated, this is light on its feet, like a tiny dancer, but held aloft by a very solid support of fine tannins. Drink or hold. Inner quote mark (7/2021)

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark A markedly spicier nose is composed by notes of dark red cherry liqueur, plum, sandalwood and a whiff of exotic tea. The rich yet nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors possess an appealing mouthfeel while displaying very fine length on the youthfully austere and well-balanced finale. This is an excellent Vosne villages built to reward mid-term aging. *Burghound Outstanding Sweet Spot!* Inner quote mark (4/2021)

90 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Light and fresh, but shows its tannic edge on the finish. The texture is perfumed and supple, and this should open well with a bit of time in the bottle. Produced from fruit purchased on long-term contracts, each of which is vinified separately, including approximately 30% premier cru fruit. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039. 89-90 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village has a pretty, floral bouquet, wilted rose petals infusing the open-knit red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and cohesive toward the disarmingly smooth finish. This will be difficult to resist in the flush of youth. 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village exhibits aromas of cassis, sweet berry fruit, exotic spices and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming palate that's bright, precise and penetrating. More refined than its 2018 counterpart, this is promising. The 2019 vintage has turned out beautifully at this address, delivering wines of immense charm, and it was a pleasure tasting through this selection with Véronique Drouhin. These textural, sumptuous whites will offer considerable immediate appeal—even if Drouhin's two bottlings from the holdings of the Marquis de Laguiche are also built for the cellar—but it's the perfumed, vibrant and enveloping reds that really steal the show this year. To my palate, of all the region's important houses, Drouhin's style places the greatest premium on aromatic range and structural finesse; and the 2019 reds compellingly exemplify those aesthetic priorities. K&L Notes

91-93pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Including declassified 1er Cru Les Chaumes, with 20% whole bunch vinification. Bright mid purple with an extremely concentrated vivid fruit, this is very striking, with an additional kick on the second half of the palate, a touch of strawberry, but especially raspberry, and good acidity behind. Bravo." (10/2020)
