2018 Domaine Louis Jadot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

SKU #1537504 96 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Notes of ripe, red cherry on the nose of this wine are displayed with fresh-faced purity. The palate adds supple richness, offering dense, supple tannin that serves as a concentrated backdrop for the lovely fruit. Freshness pervades everything and highlights the slight, delicious crunch of the youthful tannins. This all comes together in unforced, juicy harmony. (AK) Inner quote mark (12/2020)

93-95 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an intense bouquet of blueberry, cassis and iodine aromas, almost Chambolle-like in style. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Citrus-fresh with orange peel and marmalade notes toward the persistent finish. Excellent. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

94 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark This is chewy and meaty with lots of savory fruit and hints of new wood. Yet, it comes out structured and driven. Full-bodied with intense character and a flavorful finish. Inner quote mark (8/2020)

94 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Aromas and flavors of black currant, black cherry, violet and spice are backed by a solid spine of tannins in this supple, yet muscular red. The tannins are assertive now, leaving a dusting of chalk and cocoa on the finish. Inner quote mark (5/2021)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Revisited in bottle, the 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing very well, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully reserved bouquet of red cherries, raspberries, sweet soil tones and warm spices. Full-bodied, muscular and tightly wound, with lively acids and prodigious reserves of fine, chalky tannins, this is a serious, structured Clos Vougeot unapologetically built for the long haul. For the patient, everything suggests there's considerable upside, but this is not a wine to "pop and pour" any time in the next decade. In 2019, I reported on over 120 different 2018 Burgundies from Louis Jadot. As I wrote then, Jadot's Frédéric Barnier was optimistic about the reds from the beginning, but, he said, "We worked hard with the white wines—blocking a lot of malolactic—to make them fresh and lively." Revisiting an extensive range from bottle in my office in the United States, I was gratified to find the wines just as consistent as they had shown in barrel. The accompanying tasting notes record my impressions in detail. (WK) Inner quote mark (4/2021)

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark This too is quite restrained and requires aggressive swirling to reveal the notably ripe aromas of warm earth, black pinot fruit, roasted plum and wood nuances. There is very good size, weight and focused power to the larger-scaled and dense flavors where the supporting tannins are also raspy on the youthfully austere finale that offers just a bit more persistence. Inner quote mark (4/2020)

K&L Notes

92-96 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Fine dense red, quite concentrated bouquet too. Solid and well balanced. Very firm tannins afterwards with some liqueur raspberry fruit around them, but this is tough muscular stuff. Don’t even think about this for 15 years." (12/2020)
