2019 Mas de Valériole "Beauduc" Bouches-du-Rhône Terre de Camargue Rouge (No Sulfites Added) (Previously $18)
SKU #1535987
About 10 miles south of Arles, in the regional park preserve of Camargues, lies the 15th century property, Mas de Valeriole. Encircled by the Grand Rhone, Petit Rhone and the Mediterranean, Camargue is famous for its wild horses, lakes, salt marshes and rice fields and is the largest river delta in Western Europe. The property was acquired by the Michel family in the late 1950s and is now run by Jean-Paul and Patrick Michel. Since 2006, the brothers have worked organically and are certified by Ecocert. Bouches-du-Rhone is the mouth of the Rhone, straddling the appellations of both the Rhone and Provence but in terms of varieties, style and experimentation, the wines lean further into Provencal character. The Michels work with Cabernet, Merlot, Vermentino and two varieties making serious strides in the region - Caladoc (a cross of Grenache and Malbec) and Marselan (a crossing of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon). The Beauduc is pure Marselan, fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tank. No sulfites are added in the winemaking process. This is a pure and exotic red with a medium body and floral and fruit undertones. Like all the wines of Valeriole, this is engaging stuff! Indigenous yeasts, unfined, light filtration, no sulfites added.
