Outer quote mark Most Bordeaux-style white wines from Washington are Sauvignon Blanc heavy. This one flips the script, along with a heavy dose of Muscadelle that a few wineries in the state are working with. The aromas bring immediate appeal, with notes of whole orange, fig, herb and lees. A full-feeling, textured, flavorful palate follows, redolent with fig flavors. A lingering finish caps it off. It's glorious with a long life ahead of it. A lovely bottle of white wine with so much character and depth. I love white Bordeaux-style blends, and this wine adds another level of aromatic complexity with the dollop of Muscadelle. Alluring perfume of citrus blossom, freshly baked lemon tart, exotic lilikoi, and plumeria flower scents transport me to the Hawaiian isles. It has a lovely tension between the racy, citrus Sémillon and Sauv Blanc components and the more tropical tones brought by the Muscadelle. The almost 40-year-old Sémillon vines give the wine depth and concentration plus a nice savory, stony underpinning. The Sauv Blanc adds vibrancy and a nice piquancy to the finish. An astounding value made all the more attractive when you consider this wine's proven ability to age beautifully, too. For a huge breadth of white wine drinkers, this is not to be missed, a truly engaging and delightful bottle now and for many years to come.

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. - Washington has become one of the most important wine producing states in the United States, and development continues to grow rapidly. In 1969, when California was exploding as a wine producer, Washington had only two wineries, but by 2000 that number had passed 100. Most of Washington's grape crop goes to uses other than wine. Merlot and Chardonnay have been the most successful in Washington. It's interesting to note that Washington's prime wine regions are located at 46° north, along the same latitude as the legendary French wine districts of Bordeaux and Burgundy. During the summer, Washington averages more than two hours more sunlight each day compared to California.
