2019 Domaine des Costes Rouges "Tandem" Marcillac

SKU #1534556

The small appellation of Marcillac sits on the eastern edge of the region we know as the Sud-Ouest. Marcillac's main grape is Mansois (aka Fer Servadou and/or Braucol) and it must make up 80% of all appellation wines. Claudine Vinas and her husband Eric took over her family's farm in the 90s and have slowly expanded their holdings. Their vines are planted in the mostly iron-rich red clay-limestone soils in which this variety thrives. Costes Rouges has grown from 3 to 6 hectares since they assumed control and received organic certification in 2012. The "Tandem" comes from the properties younger vines and is 100% Mansois. Hand harvested and 100% destemmed, it ferments and ages in cement lined tanks. If you're wondering what it's like, think of a medium bodied version of Cab Franc picking up some of the more floral and herbal elements. A youthful style, it is great with herb-roasted pork or chicken dishes.
