The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese from Selbach-Oster is again, a bit more like an Auslese than a classic Spätlese, but it is a beautiful wine that offers up superb depth, aromatic complexity and impeccable balance to age, so what is not to like? The really refined bouquet wafts from the glass in a mix of pear, white cherry, a lovely base of salty slate minerality, wild yeasts, white flowers, bee pollen and a nice touch of citrus zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, complex and offers lovely filigree and backend lift, with fine focus and grip and a long, classy finish. This is a beautiful wine. (Drink between 2020-2060)

Super elegant and refined, this is exactly the right answer to someone who says, "sweet riesling, no way!" A thousand nuances of stone fruit, plus a delicate touch of floral honey and a whiff of fresh mint. Long, silky finish. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is pure, intense and flinty on the perfectly ripe nose that reveals raisins and crunchy slate aromas and, again, represents the great terroir of the ZSU. The finish is very dense, long and intense but by no means fat or clumsy. This has piquancy, salinity and enormous grip. Tasted at the domain in September 2020. (SR)

K&L Notes
92pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 15 20. The 2019er Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese was made from fruit harvested at 102° Oechsle on very old un-grafted vines located mid-slope and fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (77 g/l). Scents of anise and pear initially drive the aromatics, before scents of candied grapefruit, apricot, and melon join the party. At first, the wine is still on the sweet side on the palate. However, a great kick of acidity runs through the wine and adds a playful side to this juicy and smooth Spätlese which now only needs a decade or so of patience before showing its true colors. 2029-2049."
