What a stunning nose of wild herbs, ferns and peaches this dry riesling masterpiece has. Great concentration, but all neatly accommodated within a slim silhouette. Very filigree, in spite of all the power, the finish full of mineral truth and consequence. Drink or hold.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From vines planted between the 1920s and 1960s, the 2018 Riesling Zöbinger Ried Heiligenstein Alte Reben 1ÖTW offers a spectacular, deep and concentrated yet clear, refined and spicy bouquet of crushed stones, herbs, coffee beans and ripe bright fruits with notes of fresh lemon juice. This is a great mix of mineral purity and finesse with complexity and freshness on both nose and palate! The mouth is dense and complex, crystalline, refined and salty; the character is coolish, elegant and compact, with great precision and intensity; and the firm structure is mineral/phenolic. This old-vines Heiligenstein is a spectacular amalgam of finesse, mineral purity, crushed salts and lemons. Very long and full of promises. 13% alcohol. I tasted this several times last year: at Schloss Grafenegg, at the domain in September and over several days and from different glasses in October. Try the Zalto Universal or the corresponding glass from the Josephinenhütte. (SR)

A touch of smoke and a notion of wet pebble precede lifted hints of ripe citrus. The palate swims with deliciously fruity, fleshy, abundant and peachy juiciness that shimmers above a deep core of zesty yet ripe citrus. This is a mirage of fruit hovering above a concentrated, energetic, warm and pulsating core of zestiness. The finish is dry and utterly mouthwatering. Drink 2025–2045. (AK)

In previous encounters, this wine has not been very expressive and has seemed lacking in flair. More bottle age has brought greater harmony. The nose is still reticent, with muted apricot aromas and a light honey tone. Rich and weighty, it displays breadth rather than precision but it's decidedly mineral. The density on the palate is cut by vibrant acidity. Linear and spicy, it's still youthful with a taut and tangy finish that's more impressive than the fruity attack. It has a long finish. Drinking Window 2022 - 2040. (SB)
