2019 Domaine Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé "Cuvée Hors Classe Les Ménétrières"

SKU #1530090 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Unfurling in the glass with hints of pear, citrus oil, smoke, toasted nuts and white flowers, the 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé Hors-Classe Les Ménétrières is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a textural attack that segues into a deep, concentrated core. Long and sapid, it's the most powerful, muscular wine in the range. Louis Jadot acquired the Domaine J. A. Ferret, one of the historic reference points for the wines of Pouilly-Fuissé, in 2008. Madame Jeanne Ferret was one of Burgundy's great matriarchs, producing rich, concentrated wines that were harvested late and matured on the lees in oak barrels. Many of the wines produced under her tenure—and that of her daughter—are still drinking well today. Today, the style has changed; but the wines of Domaine Ferret are equally worthy of attention. Winemaker Audrey Braccini is producing fresher, brighter, earlier-harvested interpretations of Pouilly-Fuissé, and they're beautifully balanced, intense and engaging, clearly differentiated by site. The presence of new oak remains decidedly minimal at this address, though the wines see longer élevage on the lees. Braccini excels in warm vintages—witness her compelling 2015s—and so she has in 2019. Concentrated but incisive, everything reviewed here comes recommended, and as is so often the case, I found myself reflecting that this estate is one of the finest and most consistent addresses in the Mâconnais. Outer quote mark Discreet though still easily perceptible wood frames the vaguely exotic aromas of white peach, passion fruit and acacia. The succulent, rich and impressively scaled full-bodied flavors coat the palate with dry extract on the very citrusy and hugely long if slightly warm finish. This is powerful yet elegant. *Burghound Outstanding!* Inner quote mark (10/2021)

Outer quote mark From a 0.8ha parcel on the Plateau de Beauregard, at the entrance to the village on east/southeast-facing slopes. Thanks to this early-ripening location, the vines were picked on the 11th of September and the result shows an almost voluptuous ripeness, with notes of ripe golden apples touched with honey, and a slightly exotic note. On the palate, the wine is rich and dense, with a regal balance between the rich fruit, acidity and extract. (CC) Inner quote mark (10/2020)

K&L Notes

91-94 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Pure chiseled white fruit from the start with a softer, richer almost crème pâtissière feel behind, luscious and lovely. There is a beautiful long finish. Superb wine in its sumptuous style, but in a rich vintage such as 2019, I am a little bit more caught up by the Tournant de Pouilly. Tasted: September 2020."
