2019 Domaine Marc Colin Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Chenevottes" (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1526676 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark There is a touch of rosemary oil to the aromas of mostly poached pear and citrus along with a hint of lavender. There is again fine volume and richness to the medium weight flavors that possess very good mid-palate density thanks to the abundant dry extract that imparts a sappy texture and a subtle sweetness to the lingering finish. This lovely effort is a combination of richness with refinement. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!* Inner quote mark (6/2021)

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Open and charming, Colin's 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes mingles aromas of ripe Anjou pear and yellow apple with hints of stone fruit, white flowers and buttery pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and nicely defined, its gourmand core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids. Damien Colin reported that his yields were some 30% below average and that the crop ripened rapidly, "even very rapidly." Indeed, having projected a September 15 start, he began picking on September 7. Alcohol levels came in for the most part between 13% and 13.5%, with good phenolic maturity and lower pHs than in 2018. Having learned from a succession of warm vintages, every effort was made to retain freshness: working with cool grapes, minimal bâtonnage and moderate percentages of new oak. And in the vineyards, Colin is backing off rognage, working more flexibly to adapt to the vintage. All this translates to a very fine vintage chez Colin, delivering wines that are more concentrated and more clearly defined by site than the charming, open and expressive 2018s, also revisited here. 90-92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has a crisp and precise bouquet with crushed rock and subtle marine scents developing in the glass, later a hint of lemon curd. The palate is very well balanced with a dab of white chocolate and hazelnut on the entry, good depth on the mid-palate with an entrancing finish that just misses the persistent aftertaste compared to Colin’s other three Chassagnes. Still, should age with style. (NM) Inner quote mark (12/2020)

Medium bodied, slightly saline, touch of acidity. Tasted: October 2020."
