2019 Domaine Marc Colin Puligny Montrachet "Le Trezin" (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1526673 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin opens in the glass with notes of citrus oil, crushed mint and almond paste. Medium to full-bodied, bright and racy, with a tightly wound core of fruit and a mineral finish, this should turn out very well. Damien Colin reported that his yields were some 30% below average and that the crop ripened rapidly, "even very rapidly." Indeed, having projected a September 15 start, he began picking on September 7. Alcohol levels came in for the most part between 13% and 13.5%, with good phenolic maturity and lower pHs than in 2018. Having learned from a succession of warm vintages, every effort was made to retain freshness: working with cool grapes, minimal bâtonnage and moderate percentages of new oak. And in the vineyards, Colin is backing off rognage, working more flexibly to adapt to the vintage. All this translates to a very fine vintage chez Colin, delivering wines that are more concentrated and more clearly defined by site than the charming, open and expressive 2018s, also revisited here. Outer quote mark The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Le Trézin comes from a single parcel of around 60-year-old vines. It has a taut and linear bouquet with fresh sea spray notes combining nicely with the green apple aromas. The palate is crisp and fresh with a touch of creaminess on the entry, fine depth for a village cru with lemon curd and orange pith towards the finish. Lovely harmony in this Village Cru and impressive length. (NM) Inner quote mark (12/2020)

Clear pale colour, an intriguing lightly floral nose, some delicacy here, again the natural sense of balance, which I consistently find in Damien Colin’s wines. Really quite impressive density at the back given the hillside nature of this vineyard. Persistent too. Tasted: October 2020."
