2017 Yering Station "Estate" Pinot Noir Yarra Valley Victoria

SKU #1526635 96 points James Halliday

Outer quote mark Hand-picked MV6 clone, open-fermented, matured in French puncheons (23% new) for 11 months. Light, clear and bright hue; a spicy fragrant cherry blossom bouquet pulls back the curtains of a finely structured and balanced red cherry/wild strawberry palate. Superfine tannins and oak provide the texture and length of a lovely Pinot. Inner quote mark (3/2019)

Outer quote mark This has a gently meaty and reductive edge with a sweet core of ripe cherries, presented in such vibrant and attractive style. Utterly delicious and great value, this pinot punches well above its weight. Inner quote mark (5/2019)

92 points Bob Campbell

Outer quote mark Medium red colour with a subtle tint of purple. The bouquet is smoky, spicy, sweetly ripe cherry, with a rich, sweet-fruit flavour, which already possesses a touch of complexity and a lick of spicy oak. It’s medium-bodied and has good intensity, as well as persistence. There's a delicious core of sweet fruit. An impressive wine, which is very keen value for money. (HH) Inner quote mark (3/2019)

91 points Decanter

Outer quote mark Good fresh strawberry fragrance with gentle savoury undertones. Crisp and sweet fruited with a long finish and well integrated oak. Inner quote mark (7/2019)

Yering Station is the oldest continuously operating winery in Victoria, and their specialty is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. That’s not unusual for their home in the Yarra Valley, widely considered to be Australia’s Burgundy, where cool breezes from Prince Phillip Bay give Pinot Noir and Chardonnay the cool temperatures they need to balance racy acidity with ripe fruit flavors. The 2017 was a knock-it-out-of-the-park success for the Yering Station Estate Pinot Noir. The palate is powerful and focused, brimming with cherry and ripened strawberry flavors that crackle across the palate. It deftly manages its big, powerful fruit yet stays bright and light throughout. This is a perfectly balanced Pinot Noir that delivers on power and has some great scores to boot.
