2017 Panther Creek "Lazy River Vineyard" Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir

SKU #1525763 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark This is firm and full of ripe black fruits, which are set against even blacker notes of graphite and coffee. The tannins carry a lightly earthy streak, and aging in 50% new French oak brings in a nutty, toasty resonance to the finish. *Editor's Choice* (PG) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

92 points Vinous

Outer quote mark Bright-rimmed ruby. Deeply perfumed, mineral- and spice-accented cherry, dark berry and floral oil scents, with a hint of licorice that emerges with air. Palate-staining black raspberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors become sweeter and more lively with air. Shows very good energy and solid thrust on the finish, which features lingering vanilla and spice qualities and smooth, polished tannins. Inner quote mark (8/2020)

91 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Steely in structure and refined, with multilayered raspberry, green tea and orange zest flavors that build richness toward polished tannins. (TF) Inner quote mark (10/2019)

I can still hardly believe the deal we got on these wines from legendary producer Panther Creek. With a reputation going back many decades, this winery consistently producers some of the most delicious Pinots Noirs in the state. Bottling wines from their own estate and some of the finest, most highly regarded single vineyards in the region, these wines shouldn't be missed! Behind these stunning bottles is longtime, stalwart winemaker, Tony Rynders. Tony was the winemaker that took Domaine Serene to great heights and has his own boutique project, Tendril. The Lazy River bottling is from a little vineyard quickly becoming one of my favorites in the region. I first got to know the site from the spectacular wines of Lavinea. The vines are planted on the steep, south facing slope of Mt. Richmond. The wines from here have a wonderful accessible, expressive nature and tend to be, highly perfumed quality that makes them instant favorites in my book. The 2017 has floral high notes, dusty spices, black raspberry, clove, loamy earth and hits of leather. Delicate in texture but certainly not lacking in intensity of flavor and length. What a wine, what a price!
