2018 Domaine Marc Colin et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru "Les Vides Bourses"

SKU #1524939 91-93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vides Bourses 1er Cru, which lies just below the Grand Crus in Puligny, has a more distant bouquet than the Chenevottes, a little aloof at the moment but opening nicely with aeration to reveal scents of citrus peel, dry straw and a touch of lemongrass. The palate is taut and fresh, with a fine line of acidity, and quite rich in style. The slightly honeyed, almond-tinged finish needs to muster more mineralité. Otherwise this is a fine Chassagne that should give 15–20 years of pleasure. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark There is a whiff of the exotic to the fresh and ripe mix of white and yellow orchard fruit aromas that exhibit subtle spice and petrol wisps. Once again there is fine volume to the exceptionally rich medium weight plus flavors that are both seductive and generously proportioned, all wrapped in a sappy, balanced and complex finale. This is very Vide Bourse in basic character. *Burghound Outstanding!* Inner quote mark (6/2020)

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Aromas of pear, fresh peach, honeycomb and pastry cream introduce the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse, a medium to full-bodied, textural and enveloping wine that's rich and unctuous, concluding with a mouthwateringly saline finish. This is one of the more dramatic, riper wines in the cellar. Damien Colin continues his progression towards longer élevage in larger vessels: In 2017, he purchased more 300- and 350-liter barrels, a trend that continued in 2018, and after a year in wood, his wines now see a protracted sojourn in tank on the lees. He's adding less sulfur dioxide at harvest, finding that fermentations last longer. And longer élevage with attendant natural clarification meant that he was able to bottle his 2017s entirely without fining or filtration. Those 2017s, revisited from bottle, confirmed their fine showing last year; and 2018, rounder and more immediate in style, looks to be another success for Domaine Marc Colin, as my notes testify. K&L Notes

92-95pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Pale in colour and stunning on the nose, detail to follow, it is mostly in white fruit with a floral perfume alongside. Considerable depth of flavour, a hint of over ripeness, but a lovely follow through nonetheless. Tasted: November 2019."
