Another gorgeous showing from this hard-working estate, this opens with heady aromas of camphor, woodland berry and violet along with a whiff of exotic spice. Elegantly structured and radiant, the precise palate features succulent red cherry, cranberry and licorice alongside the barest hint of espresso. Firm, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity provide balance and an ageworthy structure. It's still youthfully austere and will benefit with more cellaring. (KO)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Cantina del Pino 2016 Barbaresco Gallina opens to soft and pliant red fruit that wraps smoothly over the palate. This wine shows an immediate and accessible character that makes it a pleasure to drink straight out of the gate. Dark fruit tones segue to spice, spent embers and tangy medicinal herb. To the palate, this wine offers good volume and a medium-rich, fleshed out approach. A plate of traditional agnolotti del plin stuffed with minced meat would make a perfect match. (ML) 94+

Broad and evoking cherry, raspberry, floral and earth flavors, this red is fleshy and robust. There is a purity to the fruit, underlying the fierce tannins. It comes together in the end, with a truce between the fruit and structure. (BS)

The 2016 Barbaresco Gallina is a very pretty, approachable wine. Sweet red berry fruit, flowers, mint and pine all flesh out as this supple, mid-weight Barbaresco opens in the glass. Best of all, the 2016 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. The Gallina is the most accessible of the 2016s at this stage. (AG)
