2016 Andrew Will "Sorella" Horse Heaven Hills Bordeaux Blend

SKU #1523086 99 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Flirting with perfection, the 2016 Sorella checks in as 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% each of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot. Coming all from the Champoux Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills, its saturated purple color is followed by a La Mission Haut Brion-like bouquet of black and blue fruits, gravelly, minerality, smoke tobacco, and chocolate. Deep, multi-dimensional, full-bodied, and with beautiful complexity, it’s a magical wine as well as the finest wine from this estate to date. Bravo! Inner quote mark (4/2019)

Outer quote mark The 2016 Sorella is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot. The plump, juicy nose exudes aromas of luxurious, elegant fruit characteristics of ripe blackberry and dark plum along with a layered core of oak and a structured floral bouquet. Exciting and thought-provoking on the full-bodied palate, fruit and oak spices radiate with the precision and focus of world-class wine, building to a plushier, fruit-forward expression on the mid-palate yet showing a mineral focus. The finish is long and winding, with layers that continue to evolve in the mouth, unfolding to a generous and intricate lingering expression. Only 472 cases were made, and it will be your lucky day if you can add some of this stellar wine to your cellar. Bravo! (AM) 96+ Inner quote mark (12/2019)

A bona fide Washington State "First Growth," Andrew Will's "Sorella" is year in year out one of the finest Bordeaux-styled wines in the country. The famed Champoux Vineyard is one of the oldest and most revered in all of Washington. The wine is a tour de force of Cabernet Sauvignon, saturated with crème de cassis, blackberry preserve, warm blueberry, leather, wood smoke, dusty earth, unsmoked cigar, and espresso cream. The wine is full-bodied and powerful with immaculate balance and focus. The tannin structure is firm but fine and beautifully enveloped in the folds of the luxurious, velvety textured fruit. Surprisingly drinkable for a young wine of this stature, but don't be fooled—this will only get better and better with time in the cellar, and it will last far longer than most people's willpower to resist drinking it! Better get some for now and some for later! This is our last drop of the 2016 vintage, and then it's gone.
Drink from 2021 to 2050
