Outer quote mark Ruby-colored with a very intense brick dust meniscus. The nose offers cassis, blackberry jam and menthol, with clear woody notes in the background, as well as sweet spices. 95 points Tim Atkins MW: “Still based on the Cousiño family's historic vineyards in Macul, this is an old vine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Merlot aged in 60% new wood. Subtle, complex and refined with classic mint, black tea and pastille flavours, stylish oak spices and the freshness and concentration to age.” (Red Wines of the Year) 94 points Descorchados "When this wine was presented to society with the 1992 vintage, it was a big deal. For the first time since 1927, Cousiño Macul was putting a red wine above its traditional Antiguas Reservas. The idea was to make a blend, which they took to the next level in 2004 with the release of Lota, while still following the Bordeaux-style tradition of the house. This year, the blend is Cabernet based, and the majority of the grapes come from the traditional Macul vineyards. It’s a delight of ripe red fruit, with that special “Macul” touch of menthol, spices, incense, and earth. A wine for the cellar."

Chile hits it out of the park again. The nose reminds me of a fresh berry crumble being pulled out of an oven that just had a roast in it. Strawberry, baking spice, roasted herbs, and a hint of meat from that Syrah. The palate is robust with smoky meat up front. The berry comes in about halfway through and quickly turns towards baker's chocolate, hazelnut, charred wood, and graphite. What a killer daily drinker this will make! It goes with food, on its own on a cold day, or just as a fun second bottle to open for the evening, and at $20 it'll be hard not to buy it by the case!

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 11% Syrah, this wine perfectly captures the essence of the region. The wine spends 14 months in 55% new French Oak barrel and then another 3 years in bottle before it is released. The wine is aromatic with a range of scents that move from fruit to savory, floral to earthy, and layers of spice and oak in between. The palate has weight and presence. You can feel the fruit, the oak, and the fine tannins working in harmony. The interplay of red fruit and berries with the fine oak spice and savory nuances really can only come from Chile. This was the original prestige bottling from the winery. It is reasonably priced, yet it is impossible not to taste and feel this wine's ambition.

Warm and hearty, with beefy notes and smoke over cooked herbs and baked strawberries. This is made incredibly well, with complex flavors and a richly textured palate. If you prefer old world cabs this is very up your ally, the moderate age on the bottle has let all those flavors resolve a bit and this is drinking wonderfully right now. Chocolate mint on the finish makes it even more interesting. Good Wine.
