1979 Mosstowie (Miltonduff) 40 Year Old Gordon & Macphail 125th Anniversary Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $2200)

SKU #1516343

Mosstowie was founded in 1964 by Hiram Walker within the walls of Miltonduff. Walker was a champion of the Lomond Still - a long-necked still that offered enormous versatility to the distiller. Sadly, they were difficult to clean and after just 17 years were removed in 1981. This single cask from G&M represents the last cask of Mosstowie they had aging in their warehouse and is fittingly released for their 125th Anniversary. Only 164 bottles are available worldwide. The 40-year-old whisky was laid down in Gordon & MacPhail’s Elgin warehouse on Thursday 13 September 1979 in cask number 20323, a refill Sherry Hogshead. The whisky is heavily sherried after 40 years and bottled at 49.8% ABV. The whisky is dark gold in color, with aromas of vanilla pod, butterscotch and stewed apples. On the palate, flavors of black pepper are complemented by spiced grapefruit, dark chocolate and raspberries, before giving way to a long and medium-bodied finish with hints of fresh mint leaves. One of the rarest malts in the world is available one last time from the storied Gordon & Macphail brand. Bottled in 2020.
