2012 Joseph Swan "Trenton Estate" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (Previously $60)

SKU #1516083 95 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Silky yet slightly grippy, this is a mineral-driven wine, with violet and spicy cardamom aromas atop bright, vibrant swathes of cherry and wild strawberry. This vineyard is where Joseph Swan himself first planted Pinot Noir, it retains all the promise and greatness of his initial discovery of this magical place along the Laguna Ridge. *Editors' Choice* (VB) Inner quote mark (4/2016)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Outer quote mark Youthful, highly perfumed red and dark berry scents are complemented by deeper notes of cola, mocha and black cardamon, with a sexy floral nuance building in the glass. Smooth, sweet and expansive, offering mineral-laced black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors that become weightier with air. The supple, smoky finish is framed by velvety, slow-building tannins. Distinctly polished in style, with the depth to age. (ST) Inner quote mark (5/2014)

If you were lucky enough to grab some of the last month's 2012 Joseph Swan "Trenton View" Pinot Noir before it evaporated you'll know that this is not to be missed. Again we've managed to secure a limited parcel of library wine, direct from the property, at special pricing to boot. This Trenton Estate bottling is Swan's top wine. The fruit is from the original block where Joseph Swan first planted Pinot Noir in this now legendary sub-region of Russian River Valley - Laguna Ridge. Similar to the Trenton View bottling in its beautiful combination of rose petal, spicy red fruit and earthy, savory notes...the Trenton Estate adds some extra weight and power to the equation. The color in the glass is a darker hue; there is a riper, richer feel to the fruit and more sappiness to the mid-palate texture. The earthy finish is long and layered with dried porcini and truffle mingling with forest floor and ripe red berry fruits. This wine has developed beautifully in bottle and its winery direct provenance is unsurpassed. Get it while you can!
