K&L Notes

Guillaume and Soledad Tari run this beautiful estate in the elevated seaside appellation of Bandol. Bandol is an incredible micro-climate with its concave-shaped vineyards that gain the exposure of the sun and the cooling effects of the seaside breezes, all while making powerfully rich Mourvèdre-based wines that evolve beautifully over the years. The Bandol is a blend of 65% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 10% Cinsault with an average vine age of 25 years. Just starting to develop, the Begude offers up deep black-fruited flavors accompanied by notes of anise and spices. Give this a good decant for an hour or so and then serve with grilled lamb or tagines of slow cooked meats with African spices.

Bandol is the heartiest of seaside reds. The eponymously named appellation sits just above the small town of Bandol, and it's chief varietal, Mourvèdre, enjoys the sun and salty breezes from the nearby Mediterranean. Full, rich, and sensual, the Bégude has a seamless feel with polished tannins that give the tactile sensation of fine leather. Deep blackberry fruit, roasted plums, and toasted spices frame that lusty mouthfeel. Before rosé dominated the region, this is what brought people to that little town.
