Last years single barrel from Privateer had me so in love I bought two, so it goes without saying that I was excited to try the "Thick Distillation". The name refers to the fact that, unlike other rums they produce, this is double pot distilled retaining all of those rich oils and flavor compounds. The nose comes out salty, like ocean air mixed with red apples and cinnamon. The palate follows with a doughy quality that reminds me of pie crust and apple pie! Butter, salt, apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and just a hint of orange peel make this bottle a winner and something we are unlikely to ever see again!
