Connoisseurs Guide

Outer quote mark As well might be expected from its more recent vintage, this wine is a wee bit fresher than its year-older, single-site siblings, and, if not quite as far-reaching as the latter, it still expresses Dragonette’s signature richness in its delivery of juicy, well-ripened, slightly tropical fruit. It does not demand hurried drinking, but we like where it is now, and would be more than happy to pour it in the near term while waiting for its deeper mates to grow into their best. Inner quote mark (8/2021)

K&L Notes

Winery notes: "The wine is a blend of grapes from three top vineyard sources: Grassini (60%), Vogelzang (34%) and Grimm’s Bluff (6%), with a total of 9 separate and distinct blocks represented in the final blend. The site diversity provides complexity to the wine which was fermented and aged for 7 months in oak barrels (73%) and stainless steel (27%). Bright, floral and energetic with striking aromatic intensity and depth, making it immediately appealing, but with the ability to age on its impeccable balance."

Fans of high-quality Sauvignon Blanc take note. Dragonette has emerged as one of the top wineries in Santa Barabara and their Sauvignon Blanc is a showstopper. The secret to great SB in SB is to head for the hills. Far inland, well east of the 101 is prime vineyard land for growing this world class white. This is not your run of the mill bistro Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Brandon and the Dragonette boys craft complex whites with real soul and texture. In fact, I'd recommend you give this wine a decant before serving to help open up all of its many layers. There's a wild panoply of citrus and floral notes on the nose. The body is voluminous with great texture, refreshing acidity, and a grip as it passes over the palate. Best to serve with food...such as bacon wrapped sea scallops. Very impressive.
