2018 Beau Vigne "Cult" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #1507867 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult is a blend of both of the estate vineyards: Stags Ridge and Soda Canyon, with 15% blended from Rutherford and Oakville. It was aged in 100% new oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it prances out of the glass with showy black fruit notions of preserved plums, baked blueberries and crème de cassis plus suggestions of hoisin, cedar chest, pencil lead and tilled soil with a touch of sautéed herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with black fruit preserves with loads of exotic spice and herbal sparks, framed by chewy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing earthy. (LPB) 92+ Inner quote mark (11/2020)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Fresh, clean, complex aromas of baking spice, currant, black cherry, roasted plum, mineral and cedar lead to a full body, and this is elegant, focused and persistent on the finish, showing depth without weight. 400 cases made. (JL) Inner quote mark (5/2012)

K&L Notes

This wine was initially fermented by winemaking icon Krik Venge and blended / bottled by Beau Vigne's new, much heralded, rising star winemaker Julien Fayard. Originally from France, Julien has worked in esteemed cellars such as Lafite-Rothschild and Smith-Haut-Lafitte on his way to becoming Philippe Melka's Director of Winemaking for many iconic wineries across Napa Valley. The 2018 "Cult" Cab is Beau Vigne's estate fruit from a high elevation vineyard 1,400 feet up on Atlas Peak and another down closer to the Silverado Trail, plus some fruit from Oakville and Rutherford. It's made in a rich, fruit forward, powerful, and polished style that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The stunning 2018 vintage lends beautiful freshness and vibrancy to the fruit, all wrapped in luxurious, exotic oak tones.

Beau Vigne's "Cult" Cabernet lives up to its name perfectly. This wine has that incredible rich, decadent, pure, Napa Valley fruit that has made this place the most famous region on earth to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. The only things not so "Cult" about this Cab is our incredibly low price and the fact that you don't have to perform any kind of strange rituals before you drink a bottle! Beau Vigne sources this wine from two prime estate vineyards: one high up on Atlas Peak, the other in Stags' Leap with a dash of Oakville and Rutherford fruit to top it off. The 2018 Cult was fermented by Napa Valley legend, Kirk Venge before he handed the reigns to another super star winemaker, Julien Fayard to complete the blending and bottling of the wine. Most folks interested in Napa Cab know Julien's name already, but just to recap, Julien worked at Ch. Lafite-Rothschild and Ch. Smith Haut Laffite in Bordeaux before becoming Philippe Melka's right hand man and Director of Winemaking at Atelier Melka crafting some of the most highly sought after wines in the valley. Fayard's magic touch is on full display here, the fruit is beautifully pure and polished. Flashy (read expensive) exotic oak tones caress the fruit, ripe supple tannins give form but are not astringent in anyway, this is explosive right out of the bottle, with or without food. We went all-in on this one with a winery direct deal to bring you an incredible bottle for an even more incredible price. Now you can drink Cult Napa Valley Cab every night of the week!
