2018 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot - Marquis de Laguiche"

SKU #1506829 95 points Decanter

Outer quote mark This isn’t strictly speaking a domaine wine from Joseph Drouhin, but the contract with the Marquis de Laguiche is so long that it might as well be. Showing impressive concentration, yeasty, textured weight, delightful 25% new wood and notes of beeswax and lanolin, it finishes with freshness, minerality, commendable poise and some skin-tannin grip. Drinking Window 2022 - 2030. (TA) Inner quote mark (10/2019)

Outer quote mark Honey blossom, citrus and cooked pears, but ever so subtle on the nose. Full-bodied and layered with lovely fruit, light yogurt and pie crust at the end. Really appreciate the flavor and complexity at the end here. Drink or hold. Inner quote mark (8/2020)

Outer quote mark The 2018 Marquis de Laguiche Morgeot is simply outstanding. The bouquet is deep, pure and very refined (as always!), delivering a beautiful blend of pear, golden delicious apple, pastry cream, chalky soil tones, acacia blossoms and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and already silky on the attack, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil signature, bright acids and fine purity and precision on the long and complex finish. (Drink between 2022-2050) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

Outer quote mark The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) comes from a vineyard that tends to produce millerandé berries. This has an intense, powerful bouquet with hints of menthol permeating the citrus fruit, developing a more fumé style with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with hints of passion fruit and peach on the entry, becoming spicier and subtly Muscat-like toward the very satisfying, persistent finish. Excellent. Outer quote mark This is ever-so-mildly phenolic in character (think olive or nut oil nuances) with additional notes of petrol, resin, white fruit compote and a dollop of toasty oak. The exceptionally rich, concentrated and powerful flavors also coat the mouth with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the solidly powerful and focused finish that delivers excellent length. There is a touch of backend warmth but overall, this is really quite good. Inner quote mark (6/2020)

K&L Notes

91-94pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Pale lemon colour, the nose is quite discreet. Reserved at first with a block of dense white fruit behind, some greengage notes but still feels fully, correctly ripe. No lack of density here, racy and steely at the finish. Tasted: November 2019."
