2017 Migration "Charles Heintz Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (Elsewhere $56)

SKU #1505171 93 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark The 2017 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard is slightly more savory, with a beautiful, Caramelized citrus, lime, salty mineral, and brioche driven style that doesn't lack for richness. Layered, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully textured on the palate, it's an exotic, incredibly satisfying Chardonnay from this estate that's ideal for drinking over the coming 4-5 years, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it keep longer. Inner quote mark (6/2019)

K&L Notes

A remarkable price on a remarkable wine from one of the Sonoma Coast's most legendary sites, Charles Heintz Vineyard. Planted back in 1982 to a selection of heritage clone Chardonnay, over nearly four decades this vineyard has produced some of the state's finest and most highly regarded bottles of Chardonnay from legendary producers such as Littorai, Williams-Selyem, Ceritas, DuMOL and the incredibly hard to get sparkling wines of Ultramarine. This site is famous for producing richly flavored wines with exotic fruit and palate weight whilst retaining impeccable balance and brisk coastal acidity from the cooling winds and fog right off the neighboring Pacific. Our direct purchase from Migration (part of the Duckhorn family) allows us to bring you this previously mailing-list-only wine at a super sharp price almost 50% off the original release SRP! Here's a chance to sample one of California's crown jewel vineyards for a fraction of the typical cost. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Wine Merchants Domestic Wine Buyer)

Wow! This is an explosive, exotic Chardonnay just bursting with ripe, golden, honeyed fruit. Wonderfully creamy on the palate with apricot, poached pears, crème brûlée, pecan brittle. It's certainly a rich , ripe wine, perhaps even a little hint of botrytis adding a spice and complexity of its own, but the wine also has a wonderful brightness and fresh acidity. I think that is why this vineyard is so beloved, it can produce Chardonnay with such opulent flavors and textures without sacrificing vibrancy and energy. To get a Charles Heintz Chardonnay at this price is very rare and the team at Migration (Duckhorn) did a stellar job capturing the unique qualities of this celebrated site. This one is sure to please.
