2013 Launois "Special Club" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (Ships as a 1.5L Due to Bottle Size/Shape)

SKU #1503080

Without a doubt, this is one of the best Champagnes we carry at any price. This is made from the Launois "mother vines" the massal selected old vines planted from 1947-1953 on the best mid-slope sites of their grand cru vineyards in Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. This is the last special club that they will ever produce, as they are moving to a proprietary tete-de-cuvee in the future. This shows off how well Chardonnay did in 2013 with laser like focus and a display of chalk that is hard to find in any other bottling, but at the same time remains creamy and generous. Because of the shape of this 750ml bottle, it must ship in a magnum box. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

A new vintage of the Launois Special Club! Super fresh nose with slight hints of almonds and marzipan. Lots of fruit and lemon zest. This wine just screams freshness. There is plenty of ripe fruit and the wine has excellent balance with great acid on the finish. There are hints of richness and it is very vinous finishing with meyer lemon. This drinks extremely well now but has the legs to age gracefully for many many years.

This is the very last vintage of Special Club that the Launois family will make, and they have gone out with a bang! The 2013 vintage was a late one, and like in Burgundy, a huge success for Chardonnay. This wine is sourced exclusively from the treasured, old vine plots from the 1940's and 1950's in the Grand Cru's of this families Cotes des Blancs estate. It is a masterpiece that offers not only open white flower aromatics and perfect silky texture from a tiny bead of bubbles, but also a laser like, bone dry, nearly infinite finish that shows of the pure chalk of these priceless vineyards. This is drinking so well right now when paired with shellfish or a sushi dinner, and will evolve for decades in a good cellar.

You’ve got to get your hands on this 2013 Launois Special Club. Launois Special Clubs have been known to disappear like a desert cactus flower by the light of the morning sun. Swelling aromas of biscuit and gravel wrap themselves around yellow pear and squeezed lemon in a hug of bright acidity fresh enough to cut through the fattiest of sausage. The chalky finish of the wine reminds you that Launois makes its home on the fat chalky outcrop of Le Mesnil Sur Oger and the Chardonnay from this region sings with beautiful acidity. This is a wine that might not make it to that pork chop or fish dinner, before it succumbs to your tastefully gathered aperitif spread. Make it a special night, buy a Special Club.
