SKU #1502513 93 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Longtime San Francisco Giant Rich Aurilia teams with fellow baseballer Dave Roberts to produce a wine with restrained, focused aromas of black cherry, pencil shavings, sarsaparilla and hints of allspice. The palate is all about black gravel and turned loam, with tiny bits of black cherry and noticeably firm tannins. (MK) Inner quote mark (9/2015)

K&L Notes

Red Stitch is a fascinating project between families drawn together by a passion for wine...and baseball! Rich Aurilia is known to all long-time SF Giants fans as hard-hitting short stop that gave 15 years of service to the Giants before retiring from baseball to join the broadcast team at NBC Sports Bay Area. Another partner in Red Stitch, Dave Roberts, has also worn the orange and black of the SF Giants, but now wears the archrival's Dodger blue. After 10 years playing in the big leagues, Roberts now coaches the 2020 World Champion, LA Dodgers. After meeting and tasting with Rich at Pebble Beach, I must say the wines really impressed me. There are numerous "celebrity" wine projects out there, and in my experience very few of them have much in the way of substance when it comes to the juice inside the bottle. That is not the case here. All the wines in the lineup were very serious, impeccably made and totally delicious. Take for example the Sierra Mar Pinot Noir; from a top-notch vineyard planted and farmed by legendary vignerons Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni. Packed full of the rich, exotic, spicy fruit you expect from the Santa Lucia Highlands. A very refined and polished expression highlighting the pristine fruit. We've struck up a winery direct relationship with Red Stitch and are pleased to offer a couple library wines with some deeply discounted pricing that makes them true home runs! Sorry...couldn't help myself. (Ryan Woodhouse, K&L Domestic Wine Buyer)

This majestic bottling hails from Pisoni / Franscioni owned and farmed Sierra Mar vineyard, this site is one of the most distinctive and spectacular in the region. Perched on the slopes of the Santa Lucia mountains at 1,100ft, the vines struggle in spares soils of decomposed granite and are fully exposed to the winds that funnel down the Salinas valley from the Monterey Bay. The wine is drinking beautifully right now, very expressive with an array of red to black fruits, dark cherry, black raspberry, seared strawberry, bramble, baking spice, hot stone, hints of leather. The palate is supple and silky, quite concentrated and fresh for a wine that now has 6 years in bottle. A classic expression of Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir that captures just how special the Pinot from this area can be.
