Outer quote mark The regional blend 2019 Camins del Priorat is a blend of 35% Garnacha, 24% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cariñena, 10% Merlot and 3% other varieties. The grapes were destemmed, lightly crushed and then put to ferment with the natural yeasts in a combination of stainless steel, oak and concrete vats. After fermentation, it matured in barrel and oak vats for four months. This wine showcases the power and concentration of 2019, an extraordinarily warm and dry year, but the wine has great finesse. There are more balsamic aromas from the Bordeaux varieties, which incredibly didn't dehydrate that year: the leaves took a long time to turn yellow. There are notes of licorice and something balsamic. This is juicy and chewy, powerful, with muscle, pungent and intense but with great balance and very clean. This is the most modern and international of their wines, with a showy profile. A triumph over the conditions of the vintage. 237,000 bottles produced. (LG) Inner quote mark (6/2020)

Alvaro Palacios is undoubtedly one of the architects and primary reasons for Priorat's elevation to premier fine wine region over the past 20 years. Palacios' wines have garnered a following in Spain and abroad, amongst critics and collectors, for their generous fruit, polished tannin structure, and minerality. Camins is the winery's softer, entry level Priorat where the Garnacha and Cariñena base is supported by Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot. An ideal, fruit forward red to enjoy on its own, or with a roasted chicken generously seasoned with lots of fresh herbs, accompanied by a side of pan fried potatoes and braised fennel.

The vines of Priorat are hardened, veteran souls- forced deep in the earth by geological necessity, battered by winds and gripping shear faces against the pull of gravity. Alvaro Palacios takes those vines and makes wine that smiles, with a knowing gaiety and deftness that could only be described as earned. An explosive floral nose precedes a berry and dark stone wash palate. The tannins are incredible, big and round, they should be more intrusive but frame everything wonderfully without overstepping their bounds. Really good.

Very few places in the world get young wines with this much depth and character. Priorat has been pumping out delicious, ready to drink wines and flown under the radar for a lot of the wine world keeping the prices low and the quality high. this lovely offering opens up with big bramble fruits, dark diatomaceous earth, and tons of violet. The palate is medium bodied but dense, presenting black fruit, light tannin, a hint of tar in the center that balances the wine, and a savory finish!

Grenache

- Fat, ripe and rich with ample fruit and vibrant acidity, wines made from Grenache are easy to love. While its origins are still under dispute - some suggest Spain, where it is called Garnacha, while others say it came first from Sardinia, where it is called Cannonau - it is inarguably one of the most planted varietals in the world. A hearty grape, Grenache does well in hot, dry regions and its sturdy stalk also makes it well-suited to withstand blustery conditions like the Provençal Mistral. It ripens at relatively high sugar levels, which translates to higher potential alcohol in the wines it produces. Grenache may be most famous in the Southern Rhône areas such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas where it has long been an important component of delicious blends. But it's also the source of the crisp rosés from Tavel, Lirac and Provence, and age-worthy vins doux naturels like Rivsaltes and Banyuls. Grenache is also found in large swaths of northeastern Spain, in Navarre, in Rioja, where it plays a supporting role in blends with Tempranillo, and in the distinctive wines of Priorat. The grape was once the most widely planted varietal in Australia, though Shiraz and Cabernet have overtaken it. In California, Grenache plantings have dwindled from their heyday in the San Joaquin Valley, but it is starting to see a resurgence, albeit in smaller plantings, where other Rhône varietals thrive.
