Pretty and ripe yet airy aromas are comprised by notes of mostly white fleshed fruit cut with hints of lemon peel, petrol and a whiff of acacia blossom. Here too there is reasonably good density to the delicious and attractively textured flavors that are a bit less overtly mineral on the clean dry and persistent finish. This well-balanced effort should also repay mid-term cellaring.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is also promising, unwinding in the glass with notes of peach, citrus oil, honeycomb and flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive, though on this visit it was a little tight-knit, having been sulfured shortly before I tasted it. (WK)

Vinous
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Gain 1er Cru is not a million miles away from the Hameau de Blagny in style, the nose offering attractive dried orange peel and white peach allied with a touch of wet limestone. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine bead of acidity. Perhaps this does not quite "kick on" like the Hameau de Blagny, and currently it feels more conservative toward the finish, playing it a bit safe. (NM)

K&L Notes
90-93 points from Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "Bright pale lemon, with a riper nose and a touch more oak. Medium deep white fruit, a little fatter but flatter, then some length. But not totally convincing today. Compact and a little bit chunky. Benoît explains the variability of Champgains from one grower to another by the various and varying pockets of soil scattered across the vineyard."
