2018 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru "Grenouilles"

SKU #1492677 94 points John Gilman

Outer quote mark Though the 2018 Grenouilles from Domaine Louis Michel is as ripe as the Vaudésir, it seems just a tad less tropical in personality, as it delivers a refined bouquet of apple, fresh lime, chalky minerality, beeswax, dried flowers and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with a very good girdle of acidity, lovely focus and grip and a long, nascently complex and very promising finish. This is lovely juice. Inner quote mark (12/2019)

Outer quote mark Wafting from the glass with aromas of yellow orchard fruit, peach, white flowers and honeycomb, the 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles is medium to full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with a deep and voluminous core of fruit, ripe but racy acids and a long, mineral finish. 93 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2018 Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru has a complex nose with scents of crushed stone, Chinese white tea and light pressed white flower aromas. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, one of the most powerful and intense 2018 Chablis that I have tasted, delivering layers of lightly honeyed fruit laced with spice toward the finish. What it lacks in nervosité, it compensates with sheer hubris! (NM) Inner quote mark (9/2020)

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark Aromas of quinine, acacia and green fruit lead to delicious, round and caressing larger-scaled flavors thanks to the abundant dry extract that serves to buffer the moderately structured acid spine shaping the clean and moderately dry finale. This more complex effort is bigger, richer and more powerful but not quite as classy as the Vaudésir. Inner quote mark (10/2021)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark Opulent, featuring peach, yellow plum, iodine and sage aromas and flavors. Shows a fine beam of acidity, which keeps this defined as the creamy texture gives way to a lemony finish. (BS) Inner quote mark (3/2022)

K&L Notes

92-94 points Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "Good depth of lemon colour, the nose shows a startling freshness for a vineyard which can get over fat and spicy, a little touch of its typical bacon fat. Very rich on the second half, fat and fleshy, one of the more powerful wines of the vintage. This is Chablis for rich white meat dishes. Tasted: May 2019." 92-94 points Antonio Galloni in Vinous: "The 2018 Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru is another intense wine in the range. Extremely savory and mineral in profile, the Grenouilles is compact and totally shut down, which is probably a good thing for its long-term prospects. Dried herbs, chamomile, wild flowers and lemon confit all emerge from a boisterous, tightly wound Chablis. I expect the 2018 will benefit from time in bottle but it will always retain some slightly angular contours." (1/2020)
