Alberto Burzi is one of a clutch of young winemakers in Italy who have taken his family's roots in co-op growing and turned them toward a private enterprise. He and his sister, Caterina, started their label in 2012, but even though they're the new kids on the block, they work with some great parcels in La Morra. The Plaustra is a young vineyard, but it's planted to very high density (over 8,000 vines per hectare). This leads to a dramatic intensity of fruit despite the vineyard's young vines, all while maintaining the characteristic freshness and vivid texture of the Barbera varietal.
