Albarino is the perfect summer white, but its naturally crisp acidity and peachy citrus flavors make it enjoyable year-round as an aperitif or paired with a variety of foods, particularly shellfish and seafood. It hails from the Rias Baixas zone of Galicia, on the northwest coast of Spain. Walk through any given fishing village along the "rias" (fjords) in this beautiful, cool, maritime-influenced region and you will find fresh grilled pulpo (octopus) vendors at every corner! A classic Albarino nose of white peach, citrus and mineral aromas gives way to a round middle palate with a long crisp finish. It's lovely on a warm afternoon as you enjoy the catch of the day, or seek it out at your local bistro to sip over a plate of hot, steaming mussels, grilled calamari, or...pulpo of course!
