I love what the Nelsons are doing over at Greenbriar Distillery in Nashville. They've got their heads screwed on and they got in at a pretty good time so their NDP bottlings are still relatively reasonable. The Nelsons got hold of some pretty serious stocks of bourbon from several distilleries, likely including MGP, maybe Dickel, and others. The whiskey is now really reaching maturity. The style easily matches great brands on quality terms and you're not looking at a stupid markup like so many craft distillers are asking on their purchased stocks. An excellent range of 7-11 year old bourbons of various mashbills are small batched to create a very even and solid drink. I especially love that the Nelsons have used their ancestor's merchant bottler brand to sell their merchant-bottled bourbon. This product is now bottled just under cask strength, which according to the distillery, will allow them to keep putting older barrels into the mix without compromising flavor. The result is one of the few high proof older bourbons on the market and the price continues to make it one of the best values in bourbon period.
