1997 Grandis, Haut-Médoc

SKU #1491790

A K&L new discovery in 2020. Originally a hunting lodge, Château Grandis is a little-known estate planted to approximately 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Its gravel and clay-filled limestone soils have been home to vineyards since the early 1700s, but the winery was rebuilt and modernized in 1985, resulting in a great boost in quality of production. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, which is followed by ageing in 100% oak barrels for 12-18 months. This wine is so delicious. Bright and lively. Elegant wine to drink now. You will love it. We love 1997s.

Give K&L Bordeaux Buyer Clyde Beffa Jr. his due credit. This is a left-bank stunner 24-years-young and in the prime of its life, for well under $20. Make no mistake, this is old-school Bordeaux through and through - heavy on the earthy notes at first and in need of a good hour-long decant - but once that fruit opens up...Oh My! Savory strawberry and red currant fruits with tinges of rosemary, sous bois and toast, silky tannins from the decades in bottle, and still-lively acidity. The balance is impeccable. Unbelievable quality. Priced to sell so don't miss it, it should move VERY fast.
