2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino

SKU #1490053 94 points Int'l Wine Review

Outer quote mark The 2015 Tenuta di Sesta Brunello di Montalcino begins with a gorgeous aromatic profile of cherries, orange zest, grapefruit juice and fresh ginger which all come together beautifully in this young Brunello. On the palate this is medium-to full-bodied, structured with soft, round tannins and a precise finish that is solid and compact. This will be accessible young but should develop also nicely with some short-term cellaring and drink beautifully for years to come. RV Inner quote mark (3/2020)

94 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark Quite understated for a 2015 Brunello, this shows heather, rose petals and tulips. Hints of bark, red licorice and cedar. Medium-to full-bodied with silky, sleek tannins and lots of mouthwatering acidity drive. Refined and elegant. Inner quote mark (10/2019)

94 points Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Tenuta di Sesta's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a velvety and sultry wine that boasts classic lines and generous fruit aromas. Released five years after the harvest, this expression of Sangiovese shows aged and open-knit characteristics with dried currant, forest floor, earth and plenty of blue flower. The wine yields softly integrated tannins with a pretty, mid-weight approach to the finish. You might try a traditional Tuscan dish of pappardelle alla lepre for this one. 94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is firmly rooted in the earth, as black cherry and tea leaves give way to moist soil tones, smoky minerals, and a hint of animal musk. On the palate, fleshy textures usher in polished, ripe black fruits and offsetting savory herbs, with minerals and round tannins slowly saturating the senses. The finish is long and zesty, with citrus-infused tannins and minerals tugging at the cheeks, as dried red fruits and undeniably pretty floral tones slowly fade. This is wonderfully balanced and geared up for mid-term evolution in the cellar. Frankly, I think of it like a swiss army knife of Brunello, pleasing at first pour, but with the stuffing to go ten to fifteen years. Well done. (EG) Inner quote mark (4/2020)

K&L Notes

92+ points Ian D'Agata for Vinous: "Deep red with ruby tinges. Flinty and smoky on the nose, with bright red fruit and floral nuances. Then also very floral in the mouth, with refined red cherry and berry flavors complemented by mineral strokes and hints of graphite, potpourri and Oriental spices. Not as big as some other Brunellos from this vintage, but very elegant and well-balanced." (04/2020)

Classic, balanced and enjoyable. The nose has fruit aromas but also interesting savory notes that add to the pleasure. In the mouth it is balanced with hints of minerals and a crisp finish. It will go best with food.

Big wine, little price!!! Do not let the price let you think that this is a lesser wine. This is a Great 2015 Brunelli that will develop over the years. If you open this wine in the next couple of years, give at least four to five hours decanting. YUM!!!

This is one of my favorite estates in Montalcino, yet I find myself always making excuses because it isn’t an obvious wine, the wine is gentle, calm yet so unassumingly charming, simplistic yet incredibly deep. I find drinking this wine is like talking with the Owner Giovanni Ciacci, he’s such a gentleman, so elegant with a country ease it is just a reassuring pleasure to be around him, you feel like everything is going to be just fine…you can see I like the wine. The nose of this vintage gives you all the pure Sangiovese aromatics, wild cherry and plum cut in behind the earthy elements along with hints of dried roses and freshly cut leather. Yet in recent years the quality of fruit has increased exponentially and there is now a depth to the wines that was not there before. On the palate this wine is supple, smooth, and flows easily across your tongue. The finish is lively, fresh and has a lifting finish, despite all the smooth, supple, round adjectives this wine is fresh and vibrant. Drink now with 2-3 hours of decanting but best after 2025.
