Despite being hit by frost in 2016, the new vintage of Clos des Caillerets from Domaine Chartron is outstanding and shows no ill effects from last year’s freeze. The bouquet is superb, offering up stunning depth and nascent complexity in its mix of apple, pear, a touch of orange zest, complex, limestone minerality, a hint of fresh almond and a discreet framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with a great core of fruit, stellar mineral drive, bright, racy acids and laser-like focus on the very long, complex and perfectly balanced finish. An outstanding wine in every respect.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret offers up notes of mandarin, lemon oil, smoke, dried white flowers and candle wax. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a tighter-knit, more tensile profile than the Clos de la Pucelle, built around tangy acids and chalky extract. This looks to be the finest premier cru in the Chartron cellar this year. (WK)

Enticing aromas of vanilla, citronella, hazelnut and lime are the hallmarks of this creamy white. Harmonious and complex, lingering on the finish and fading gracefully, with echoes of spice and citrus. (BS)

Vinous
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Cailleret 1er Cru has a very detailed bouquet with touches of green apple, crème fraiche and light gooseberry fool aromas that gently unfolds in the glass. The palate is well balanced and perhaps more tensile than the Clos de la Pucelle, although it does not quite convey the same persistence and volume on the finish. Still, this will certainly mature with style.(NM)

K&L Notes
94 points Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "Pale lemon, a nose of immediate distinction with an adorable freshness throughout, this has a grace coupled with an electric energy that puts it ahead of Clos de la Pucelle. Really fine juicy fruit and a feeling of balanced nobility. Tasted: October 2018."
