2019 Bründlmayer "Kamptaler Terrassen" Riesling Kamptal

SKU #1488082 95 points James Suckling

Outer quote mark A very tight, composed white, showing dried-apple, lemon and spiced-pear character with heather and honeysuckle. It’s full-bodied with lots of lively fruit and a vivid finish. Structured. Super wine at this quality level from one of the legends. From organically grown grapes. Inner quote mark (9/2020)

92 points Wine & Spirits

Outer quote mark A blend of fruit from high terraces cut into primary rock as well as loess-rich lower sites, this is a firm, svelte Riesling. Vinified spontaneously in stainless steel, it has a little yeasty richness to fill out its lean, mineral flavor, and a lot of mouthwateringly bright, limey fruit. Inner quote mark (4/2021)

92 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark This white is well-defined and chiseled, with notes of eastern spice framing elderflower, peach and kumquat aromas and flavors. Resonates on the palate, ending with citrus and spice details. Drink now through 2024. Inner quote mark (7/2021)

91 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark The faintest whiff of passion fruit hovers tropically on the nose. The palate tones it down, with slender citrus notions of lemon and zesty grapefruit, presenting a slender, fresh and tangy body full of aromatic, citrus-scented freshness. The finish is dry and moreish. (AK) Inner quote mark (7/2020)

This dry Riesling has beautiful and inviting aromas. In the mouth it is clean and elegant with just enough fruit that is balanced by a crisp finish. It is refreshing and dynamic with energy and focus.

A super lively Riesling from one of Austria’s benchmark producers. Plenty of fresh lemon and grapefruit notes on the nose are followed through on the palette. They’re supported by a slightly herbaceous or grassy edge and just a hint of juicy peach, though certainly remaining a dry wine. The wine is solidly built, with a mineral driven backbone. Refreshing, complex, and a welcome guest at any dinner table.

This is what the textbooks write about in terms of classic Austrian Rieslings. This one is filled with a rainbow of citrus fruits, and slight hints of attractive pithy-ness followed with beautiful floral and fresh green herbs, dill, chervil finishing with a saline draw. The texture is inviting and the mouthfeel is zippy. This is palate stimulating vino for those that seek dry yet flavorsome table wines that are affordable.

In my humble opinion the best dry Rieslings in the world come from Austria. They have the ideal climate and terroir to coax the perfect blend of fruit, minerality, complexity and dryness. The 2019 Brundlmayer Riesling is a great example of the heights that can be reached in Austria when everything comes together, producer, region and a fantastic, possibly once-in-a-lifetime vintage. A brilliant nose of petrol, almond skin, white flowers and stone fruits greet the nose while the palate is flush with citrus notes primarily bitter lemon and white grapefruit. There is a rush of fresh fruit notes towards the end that washes over the palate and makes this a surprisingly full-bodied Riesling. Made from orgaincally grown grapes this is a stunning value.
Top Value! Drink from 2021 to 2030
