2018 Domaine William Fevre Chablis 1er Cru "Fourchaume"

SKU #1487709 94 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Lemon oil subtly pervades thevmossy nose on this wine with richness and generosity. The juicy palate adds zestiness that plays above rounded, smooth yeastiness. Towards the finish this tapers towards limestone depth, ending with a long echo of lemon. Lovely now, the wine will show its truer self with bottle age. (AK) Inner quote mark (12/2020)

Outer quote mark The 2018 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru is superb. Rich and ample with tremendous structure, the 2018 possesses terrific depth and textural resonance throughout the finish. Orchard fruit, lemon confit, almond and menthol infuse the 2018 with notable complexity and intensity. Textured, oily and deep with a bit of a savory edge, the 2018 has so much to offer. Outer quote mark As Fourchaume is one of the warmer premier cru microclimates, I expected to find the vintage’s signature a bit more prominent in examples from this vineyard, but this is not the case with the Fourchaume from Domaine William Fèvre! All of the fruit for this bottling also hails from Vaulorent, which gives the bouquet more mineral precision in its expression of apple, pear, wet stone minerality, lime peel, dried flowers and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off beautiful mid-palate depth, with a lovely mineral undertow, bright, snappy acids and great focus and grip on the long and complex finish. Great juice. Inner quote mark (1/2020)

Outer quote mark Apples, melon, flint and stone on the nose with medium to full body and allspice and bitter lemon at the finish. Inner quote mark (8/2020)

Outer quote mark In much the same fashion as the Les Lys the nose is overtly floral in character with background nuances of oyster shell, iodine and wet stone. The impressively rich, concentrated and powerful medium weight plus flavors possess excellent intensity that carries over to the complex, long, dry and focused finale. This is, in a word, terrific. Outer quote mark This white hints at peach and greengage, along with lemon, pastry and stone flavors. It's complex and balanced, with a finish that stretches out echoing the mineral element. (BS) Inner quote mark (12/2020)

K&L Notes

92 points Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2018 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru has a comparatively rich bouquet of peach, linseed and a very subtle petrolly aroma. The palate is well balanced with a bitter lemon note on the entry. This is more saline and spicier than the Vaillons, featuring stem ginger and menthol on the finish. An attractive Fourchaume that should give a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure." (9/2020)
