2018 Domaine Bernard Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Grandes Ruchottes" (Pre-Arrival)

SKU #1487401 95 points John Gilman

Outer quote mark The 2018 Grandes Ruchottes from the Moreau brothers is another masterpiece in the making. The nose is pure, refined and nascently complex, wafting from the glass in a mix of apple, pear, incipient notes of crème patissière, refined minerality, citrus peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, reserved and rock solid at the core, with great mineral drive and focus, perfect balance and a long, zesty and complex finish. (Drink between 2028-2060) Inner quote mark (12/2019)

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark Deep and powerful, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes offers up a deep bouquet that mingles aromas of pear and tangerine with nuances of warm bread, iodine and dried white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated, this is also quite introverted and structured, with lively acids and a long, saline finish. (WK) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

93-95 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Grands Ruchottes 1er Cru has a fabulous bouquet of white peach, apricot, orange blossom and nectarine, turning a touch more tropical than Moreau’s other Premier Crus as hints of passion fruit and guava emerge. The palate is very well balanced with a killer line of acidity. This is armed with wonderful salinité and a focused finish akin to a Puligny Grand Cru. This is a very serious Chassagne-Montrachet that should give many years of drinking pleasure. (NM) Inner quote mark (1/2020)

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

Outer quote mark Here the expressive nose is relatively similar to the Caillerets though it's a bit less obviously exotic in character. The succulent, even juicy, and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors also flash very good power on the beautifully well-balanced finale. This mouth coating beauty is quite firm so plan on cellaring it for at least a few years first. Inner quote mark (6/2020)

K&L Notes

92-96pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Just a little bit fuller in colour and richer on the nose. This underwent a long slow fermentation and it has not yet found its place. There is a wealth of yellow plum fruit on the palate then a softer finish with a little more oak. The acidity by analysis is the same as for the Caillerets but is hidden under this weight of fruit. My score may be conservative here. Tasted: December 2019."
