This intense, full-bodied wine is full of baked-apple and cooked-pear flavors. There is certainly acidity here, but it is integrated in the wine's ripeness and weight. The perfumed, nutty aftertaste is as full as the rest of this rich wine. *Editors' Choice* (RV) (10/2019)
Established over 50 years ago, the 4th generation of the Denis family now runs this operation. Julien is the winemaker, Stephane in charge of the viticulture and Vincent oversees the administration and sales. Over the last decades the property has grown from 5 to 80 hectares that stretch across the appellation including some very select parcels in the Coteaux du Layon (home of one of the region's great dessert wines). The Anjou Blanc is grown on primarily schist soils and goes through its elevage in stainless and then some barrel aging. The introduction of oak is minimal though using primarily older barrels to impart a little spice character while helping build the texture and richness of the wine.
