2015 Cambria "Tepusquet Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Syrah (Elsewhere $20)

SKU #1483394 94 points Vinous

Outer quote mark The 2015 Syrah Tepusquet Vineyard is the most impressive wine in the range today. Powerful, dense and explosive, the 2015 pulses with both energy. An exotic mélange of inky dark fruit, creme de cassis, lavender, black pepper and spice builds as this striking wine shows off its pedigree. (AG) Inner quote mark (9/2018)

Outer quote mark The only Syrah I was able to taste from this estate was the 2015 Syrah Tepusquet. It's a smoky, meaty, barbecue-scented beauty that has lots of pepper and dark fruits, medium to full body, a ripe, sexy texture, and a great finish. It has ample character and will keep for 5-6 years. Inner quote mark (10/2018)

I have huge respect for wine critics that aren't afraid to drop big scores on relatively inexpensive wines when they truly deserve it! This fantastic Syrah from Cambria is a perfect example of giving credit where credit is due. Galloni bestowed this "powerful, dense, and explosive" Syrah with 94 points! Hailing from the Tepusquet Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley with vines planted in the 1970s, this is true cool-climate Syrah. The soils here consist of ancient marine fossils, shale, and windblown sand. The vines are meticulously farmed by the team at Cambria, and the wine is immaculately crafted by 15-year veteran winemaker, Denise Shurtleff. The wine is packed full of quintessential varietal expression: crushed violets, smoldering embers, cracked peppercorn, inky purple fruits, and exotic spices. Rich and weighty, but beautifully balanced and proportioned on the palate. It's originally priced at $32 by the winery, but we have a super deep price on this wine that you have to see to believe. This is an absolute bargain price on a wine that already over-delivered at its full retail price point.
